Restoration
Since 1966, AC Pianocraft has been successfully restorinwg Steinway, Mason Hamlin, Bosendorfer, Yahmaha and other fine grand pianos. When we restore your vintage piano we give it a new life; we resurrect it. Many of our clients are not only enjoying their rebuilt pianos now, but also intend to pass them on keeping them in the family for generations to come. Complete rebuilding and refinishing makes playing your piano a new and exciting experience and greatly enhances the value of your instrument and is therefore also a worthwhile investment.
When rebuilding a piano we only use the finest materials. Unlike many piano restorers, we use only genuine Steinway action parts when restoring vintage Steinway pianos unless requested otherwise by the customer. Our soundboards are made of the finest spruce available and are custom fitted and tapered to each instrument, ensuring the potential resonance of each instrument is fully realized. We employ only highly trained technicians who must meet our strict standards of piano restoration and who are skilled at their craft and diligent at their work to ensure that the integrity of your piano is never compromised but is restored as close to the original condition, if not better. Alex Kostakis our head piano technician and also the owner of AC Pianocraft, Inc. he personally oversees the restoration work performed in the factory. He inspects work on every piano that comes through the factory door and no piano leaves until it has passed his rigorous tests. Alex demands a lot from his employees when it comes to restoring our client’s pianos because they expect the best from us and our reputation in the industry demands it.
Refinishing
AC Pianocraft Inc. can refinish your piano so that it may once again look as beautiful as when it was created. We perform complete piano refinishing which involves the exterior or cosmetic look of the piano case. We have skilled and talented refinishers with years of experience who meticulously apply their expertise and knowledge to each instrument.
Refinishing a piano is comprised of the following steps: Old and decayed finishes are washed down to the veneer. All missing or loose veneers are replaced or repaired with new matching veneers. All other wood repairs are completed (e.g. loose legs, missing corners, etc.) Piano is sanded down to a smooth surface. For natural color pianos, color samples are sent to the customer for color approval. The client then has the choice on going with a lighter or darker, redder or browner finish. After the client selects the color the stains are applied to the wood and properly matched. We then apply 7-10 coats of the chosen color to ensure good depth and luster of finish. Upon curing a finish it is then rubbed out to a desired sheen of the customers choosing satin, satin luster or high gloss. In the meantime the hardware (pedals, hinges) is professionally plated or polished.
Tuning & Repair
AC Pianocraft Inc. offers tuning services, done by the most professional tuners in the industry. We recommend that pianos be tuned at least twice a year, when seasons change. It is extremely important to acquire a tuner who is well trained and experienced. Since no license is needed to become a tuner, many “tuners” are not well trained and can actually harm your piano. Finding the correct tuner will make your instrument sound its best.
In addition to complete restoration, AC Pianocraft Inc. is capable of servicing your piano in any way necessary, from fixing a squeaky pedal to fully regulating the piano’s action.
If you are not sure what needs to be done on your piano, Alex Kostakis will personally come to your residence, assess the piano, and give you a professional consultation and an estimate for the amount of work needed. You are under no obligation to do all or any of the work.
Some of the work may be done without removing the piano from your residence and other, more intricate work, may necessitate the piano coming to our factory. If your piano is brought to our facilities, we can arrange (if completely necessary) for a loaner piano at a nominal fee so that you will not go without an instrument during the repair time.
